Hi. I’m Jesse Duley. I live in East Fife, Scotland, where people who hear my name without first having met me assume that I am a woman. I am in fact a man. My parents didn’t have clairvoyance enough to know that I would ever move from London to Scotland. Right now, if you’re anything as geeky as me, you’re thinking about the Star Wars reference I just made.
Jesse is originally a male name, as it comes from the Hebrew ישי (Yishai). Jesse is in the Bible, he was the father of King David, who was a brilliant musician.
I once wrote and performed original music for a production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, in which I was just offstage as a companion to the character of Feste, the fool. It was there that I was first given the nickname Jester as a humorous distortion of my name. I liked it and it stuck.
When I was 17 I had an unexpected encounter of the spiritual kind, and have ever since called myself a Christian. I love God and I love the Church. I also love music, and yet there are things people do that they call music which I consider abominable. Likewise, there are things that people do that they call Christian which I consider abominable. This blog is one way of helping me to crystallise my own perspectives on life, the universe and everything, and perhaps in the process I may have something unique to offer readers by way of viewing things through a slightly different lens.
Thanks for visiting.
So, what your saying is, you’re not just a musician (anymore)…sounds to me like a case of having too much of your father in you, eh, Luke…I mean Jesse? (I like Star Wars, too.) – Don
